Edmonton Basketball Officials Association Application Process 2026

The EBOA welcomes new officials each September at the start of the fall/winter season.  The clinic will have a limited number of spots available.  Below are the details of the application procedure and what to expect if you are a successful candidate.

Successful application process has 3 parts.

A. Application             B.  Clinic and Rules evaluation       C. Practical (On-court) evaluation

A. About the Application (link found at the end of this information)

  • Applications, complete with references and resumes, will be accepted online from April 11th  to June 30th, 2026.

  • Applications will be reviewed and invitations to the next New Officials Clinic will be sent by email by July 31st.

 B. About the New Officials Clinic and Rules Evaluation

  • National Officials Certification Program (NOCP) Level 1

  • Date/Time: September (TBA)

  • Location: Jasper Place High School

  • Cost:  $60.00

  • This is a full day clinic in which applicants will be instructed in rules, responsibilities and mechanics as outlined in the current FIBA Official Basketball Rules.  You can get a head start by reading the rulebook found here. https://about.fiba.basketball/en/services/resource-hub/downloads

  • At the end of the day, applicants will be evaluated through a rules exam.  A passing mark of 70% is needed to move on to the practical evaluation.

C. About the Practical Evaluation

  • Applicants will then be evaluated on court in an abbreviated refereeing experience usually scheduled for the weekend following the clinic.

After both evaluations (rules and on-court) are completed, successful applicants will be offered membership in the EBOA.
